HARARE, Zimbabwe
Zimbabwean President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday called on to set aside differences and work together for the development of the nation.
In his first Heroes Day speech on Monday in the capital Harare, Mnangagwa said: “The task facing us today is huge. Let’s unite as Zimbabweans to revive our economy and rebuild our great nation.”
Heroes Day is marked year on second Monday of August to honor all those who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from colonial rule.
“Let us never allow our differences to separate us to cause animosity or steer intolerance and violence amongst us,” the president-elect said.
Mnangagwa is yet to be sworn in as President, as the opposition Movement for Democratic Change Alliance sought a legal action to halt his inauguration, arguing that he rigged the July 30 elections.
