TUNIS, Tunisia
AC Milan's Ghanaian central midfielder Michael Essien has taken to social media to deny reports that he has contracted the deadly Ebola virus.
The 31-year-old said on his official Twitter account: "No truth in internet rumours that I have contracted Ebola. I'm very well and I'm doing very good and will be training as usual tomorrow."
Nigeria’s Daily Times newspaper claimed Sunday that Essien had contracted the virus, which has swept through several West African countries, killing at least 4,000 people, according to World Health Organization.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid player is training with Ghana’s national squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ghana drew 1-1 against Guinea on October 11 in Casablanca.
The Africa Cup of Nations will be held between January 17 and February 8, 2015 in Morocco.
