Coronavirus fatalities, infections mount in Latin America

BOGOTA, Colombia

Countries across Latin America have reported new COVID-19 cases and fatalities, according to official data announced late Monday.

Brazil

At least 76 more people have lost their lives in Brazil, and 11,850 people have been infected over the past 24 hours.

The death toll in the country has risen to 619,209, and the total number of cases has exceeded 22.3 million, according to the latest figures of the National Council of Health Secretariats.

The platform that the Health Ministry shares the latest COVID-19 data in Brazil, has not been working for a while due to a cyber-attack.

Mexico

A total of 2,877 new COVID-19 cases and 37 fatalities in the past 24 hours in Mexico, the Health Ministry reported.

The country of 126 million people has so far recorded more than 3.99 million cases, 299,581 deaths, and over 3.31 million recoveries.

Colombia

Colombia’s Health Ministry reported 35 more fatalities from the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 130,061.

The country's caseload surpassed 5.19 million, including 9,848 new infections, with more than 4.98 million recoveries.

Argentina

According to data by Argentina's Health Ministry, 44,396 new infections brought the total number of cases to over 5.73 million.

After 41 patients died on the past day, the countrywide death toll has risen to 117,245. In the country with a population of nearly 45 million people, more than 5.35 million recoveries have been reported so far.

Peru

Peru reported 14 fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 202,818, according to the country’s Health Ministry.

During the same period, 1,376 new coronavirus cases were reported in the country, taking the total number of infections to over 2.3 million.

Meanwhile, more than 2.28 million people have recovered from the disease.

Chile

Over the past day, Chile reported 11 deaths related to COVID-19, pushing the death toll to 39,173, the country's Health Ministry said.

The number of infections rose by 1,005, raising the total number of cases to over 1.81 million. More than 1.75 million people have recovered so far.
