"Good news" is expected soon, a source said Tuesday, after Pakistan asked US President Donald Trump to extend the Iran deadline, according to CNN.
Citing a regional source, CNN said “some good news is expected from both sides soon” and that discussions were steered directly by Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The source added that a deal is expected to be closed tonight, according to the report.
The latest development came after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asked warring parties to observe a two-week ceasefire to “allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war” in a post on US social media company X.
Sharif also asked Trump to extend his deadline on Iran by two weeks and for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz during that period.
The White House said Tuesday that Trump has been made aware of Sharif’s proposed ceasefire and that “a response will come.”
