ANKARA
Honduras confirmed its first two cases of the coronavirus Wednesday, according to the health ministry.
Health Minister Alba Consuelo Flores said two female patients, aged 42 and 37, returned March 4 and 5 from Spain and Switzerland and are in quarantine and self-isolation in stable condition.
Authorities urged Hondurans to check for updates on the covid19honduras.org website.
The coronavirus known as COVID-19 emerged in Wuhan, China, last December and spread to more than 100 countries.
The global death toll is 4,300, with 118,000 confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
On Monday, the head of the WHO said with the number of countries affected by the virus, the “threat of a pandemic has become very real.”
