US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that there is only one multi-point proposal considered acceptable to end the war with Iran, and it will be discussed privately in the coming days.
Just hours after a two-week ceasefire mediated by Pakistan went into effect, Trump said the proposal "is reasonable, and can easily be dispensed with."
"Numerous Agreements, Lists, and Letters are being sent out by people that have absolutely nothing to do with the U.S.A. / Iran Negotiation, in many cases, they are total fraudsters, charlatans, and worse," Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
"There is only one group of meaningful 'points' that are acceptable to the United States, and we will be discussing them behind closed doors during these Negotiations. These are the points that are the basis on which we agreed to a ceasefire," he added.
Washington and Tehran agreed to a temporary ceasefire on Tuesday, pausing the war that had unsettled Gulf and global markets and raised fears about the security of regional energy infrastructure and shipping lanes.
Trump announced Tuesday that he agreed “to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks" to allow diplomacy to move forward.
The announcement came less than two hours before a deadline the US president had set for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and accept an agreement or face what he described as the destruction of “an entire civilization.”
Regional tensions have soared since the US and Israel launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,400 people to date, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. It also restricted the transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy supplies.
