The US House of Representatives on Thursday voted down a measure aimed at limiting US President Donald Trump’s military actions against Iran.
The vote on the second war powers resolution in the chamber, which came weeks after the beginning of the US-Israeli war on Iran on Feb. 28, ended 213-214.
A fragile ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8 currently holds until April 22.
Nearly all Democrats supported the resolution, with only one opposing. On the Republican side, just one lawmaker — Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky — broke with his party to join Democrats in favor of the measure.
The War Powers Resolution of 1973 requires that within 60 days of the president notifying Congress about military hostilities, the use of armed forces must stop unless Congress formally approves it.
Thirteen US service members have been killed since Operation Epic Fury against Iran began on Feb. 28.
