Spain's Rafael Nadal defeated his fellow David Ferrer 6-3 6-2 6-3 on Sunday to become the first player to win eight titles in the same Grand Slam tournament.
On its last day, the 112th French Open in capital Paris saw the men's final game between the title winner of the past three years and the first-time Grand Slam finalist.
Sunday's win gave Nadal his 12th Grand Slam title, placing him in a tie for third place with Roy Emerson behind Roger Federer's 17 and Pete Sampras' 14.
