Essebsi urges protestors to stay away from violence
Tunisia's President-elect Beji Caid Essebsi on Monday called on protesters against his electoral victory to stay away from violence.
"I appeal to all our sons in the south to stay away from violence," Essebsi said in a speech aired on state television.
"I'm proud of being elected the first President of the second republic," Essebsi said.
Essebsi was declared winner the poll with 55.68 percent of the vote, while Marzouki won 44.32 percent of the vote in Sunday's poll, according to Tunisia's election commission.
Tunisia's presidential election is seen as the last step in the country's transition to democracy following the ouster of autocraftic President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in a popular uprising in 2011.
