9 killed in eastern India hotel fire

Nine people were killed and several others injured after a fire broke out at a hotel in Kolkata, the capital of India’s eastern West Bengal state, early Wednesday.

The blaze trapped people inside the building, according to local reports.

Nine people have died, and the death toll could rise, the Press Trust of India quoted a senior official as saying.

A major rescue operation was launched after the fire was reported, officials said.
