A magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck Mindanao in the Philippines on Monday, said the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
The quake was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), GFZ said, revising its initial magnitude reading of 7.3 upward.
The US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami threat following the quake.
