South China gas leak at iron foundry kills 8

BEIJING

Eight people were killed and 10 others injured following a gas pipeline leakage incident at an iron foundry in southern Guangdong province on Monday, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Shaoguan city officials said the incident took place early morning at the Shaoguan Iron and Steel Company’s Songshan plant.

The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, the agency said.
