Tokyo on Thursday recorded the highest temperature for June in past 147 years, Japan's weather agency said.
The capital is sizzling under intense heat wave as the temperature climbed to 36.4 degrees Celsius (97.5 degrees Fahrenheit).
It is the highest temperature for June in records available since 1875, Japan Meteorological Agency said.
Rise in temperatures has led to increase in use of cooling systems.
However, authorities have insisted people to cut usage of electricity in the resource-scarce nation.
Japan this month also saw early end to rainy season as the meteorologists said it was the shortest season in the capital region throughout the country’s recorded history.
The “unusual” early end has been recorded for the first time since 1951.
