- Istanbul to host Akbank Jazz Days
Turkey’s culture capital Istanbul is set to host the annual Akbank Jazz Days festival, which started on June 2 and will run until June 30.
Turkish jazz vocalist Senay Lambaoglu will take the stage at Istanbul’s Akbank Sanat on June 10 as part of the festival.
German-born Lambaoglu is considered one of the leading female jazz vocalists of recent years, according to a press release from Akbank Sanat.
Italian jazz saxophonist Francesco Bearzatti will play the Tinissima Quartet on June 16, also at Akbank Sanat. Bearzatti, who performs as a soloist as well as with larger bands, has "both lyrical and impulsive" style, according to the press release.
Algerian singer and actress Karima Nayt will close the festival. Karima recorded her solo album Quoi d’Autre? in 2012.
Singing in Algerian, French and classical Arabic, "her art is a voice that allows her to talk about social and political issues,” according to Karima’s official webpage.

- World Premiere with Kim Kashkashian and Peter Nagy
Grammy-award winning Armenian-American violist Kim Kashkashian and Hungarian pianist Peter Nagy will perform at Istanbul’s Surp Vortvots Vorodman Church on June 10.
The duo will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonata for Viola da Gamba and Cembalo No. 1 in G Major as well as Armenian composer Tigran Mansurian’s new opus Komitas.
The performance will take place as part of the 43rd Istanbul Music festival, which brings together almost 600 local and international musicians in Istanbul and will run until June 29.
Kashkashian and Nagy had already performed in the 2013 Istanbul Music Festival.

- Istanbul Modern to screen Nordic Films
Scandinavian films will be shown at Istanbul Modern Cinema as part of Nordic Film Festival, which will run until June 14.
The festival gathers Danish, Finnish, Swedish, Icelandic and Norwegian films.
The selection features veteran Norwegian director Bent Hamer’s latest film 1001 Grams, the winner of the 2014 Golden Lion for best film in Venice, A Pigeon Sat on a Brach Reflecting on Existence, directed by Swedish director Roy Anderson and Academy Award-winning director Susanne Bier’s A Second Change, according to an Istanbul Modern press release.
Screenings will include Turkish and English subtitles.

- French drama Saint Laurent to hit Turkish theaters
French biography drama Saint Laurent will hit Turkish theaters Friday.
Written and directed by French filmmaker Bertrand Bonello, the films tells the story of French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent’s life between 1967 and 1976, when his fame was at its peak.
The 2014 film casts French actors Gaspard Ulliel and Louis Garrel, and Belgian Jeremie Renier.
The film competed in last year’s Cannes Film Festival.
