Germany's exports increased by 6.1% year on year in July 2026, while imports rose 3%, official data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) showed on Tuesday.
On a monthly basis, exports dropped 0.8% to €138.2 billion ($160.5 billion) and imports fell 5.7% to €116.9 billion in July 2026.
The foreign trade balance recorded a surplus of €21.3 billion in July 2026, up from €15.4 billion in June 2026 and €16.8 billion in July 2025.
Germany exported goods worth €78 billion to EU member states in July 2026, down 1.6% from June 2026, while imports from EU countries fell 6.1% to €59.6 billion.
Exports to euro area countries dropped 2.8% to €53.9 billion, and imports from these countries decreased 6.5% to €39.9 billion.
Goods exported to non-euro area EU countries rose 1.1% to €24.1 billion, while imports from these countries fell 5.1% to €19.6 billion.
Exports to non-EU countries rose 0.2% to €60.2 billion, while imports from these third countries dropped 5.3% to €57.4 billion.
The US remained the largest destination for German exports in July 2026, with goods exports increasing 19.1% month on month to €14.4 billion; compared with July 2025, exports to the US soared 28.3%.
Exports to the UK fell 7.2% to €6.7 billion, while exports to China dropped 9.5% to €5.6 billion month on month.
China was the main source of German imports in July 2026, supplying goods worth €15.2 billion, down 7.5% from June 2026.
Imports from the US fell 8.2% to €7.9 billion, and imports from the UK declined 1% to €3.2 billion in the same period.
