PODGORICA, Montenegro
The total number of passengers flying from Montenegro’s capital Podgorica to Istanbul rose over 25 percent in 2018, the airport announced on Wednesday.
Over 103,000 passengers took flights from Podgorica to Istanbul as of October, a rise of 26 percent from the same period last year, Podgorica Airport said in a statement.
In 2017, around 81,500 air passengers travelled on the line in first ten months.
Between Jan. 1-Sept. 23, Turkish Airlines -- the only carrier for the line -- conducted 437 flights, a 9 percent rise year-on-year.
Turkey has been a top spot for Montenegrin tourists, according to the country’s tourism agencies.
Many Montenegrins are expected to pick Istanbul for New Year holiday, the tourism officials said.
Montenegro is one of the smallest countries in Europe with over 600,000 population.
