ISTANBUL
Turkey’s airport operating group, TAV Holding signed a purchasing agreement with Limak Holding for a 40 percent stake of Sabiha Gokcen airport, on Istanbul's Asian side, TAV executive director said on Monday.
According to agreement, TAV will acquire a 40 percent share of the airport from Limak Holding and become partners with Malaysia Airport Holding, which has a 60 percent share of the Sabiha Gokcen airport.
The new signing will be a strategic partnership for both companies said Sani Sener, TAV President & CEO. This is especially significant in light of the fact that Istanbul's biggest airport, Ataturk Airport will be closed after a new mega airport planned in north of Istanbul is built.
"To watch for the opportunities via maintaining our existence in Istanbul in order to benefit from the growth potential of the city at least till 2030 is our responsibility as executives of the company” Sener said.
Currently TAV has a network of airports operated in coordination with each other including skopje, Ohrid, Tiflis, Batum, Riga, Enfidha, Monastir, Ankara , İzmir, Bodrum and Gazipasa airports.
Malaysia Airport Holding holds pre-emptive rights for the purchase of Limak Holding’s share in the airport. TAV is expected to operate as soon as the Malaysian company decide not to buy the shares belong to Limak.
