WASHINGTON
The U.S. foreign trade deficit in December reached $38.7 billion with a 12 percent increase compared to November, the U.S. Department of Commerce said in a report released on Thursday.
According to the report, the foreign trade deficit rose as a result of a decrease in U.S. exports during December. The foreign trade deficit in November was $34.6 billion.
In December, total exports decreased by $3.5 billion to $191.3 billion, the biggest decline since October 2012.
Meanwhile, imports surpassed the November figures and totalled $230 billion.
