ISTANBUL
US import prices rose 0.2% in January following a 0.2% increase in the previous month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Thursday.
Nonfuel import price gains more than offset falling fuel prices during the first month of the year.
Import prices edged down 0.1% for the 12-month period ended in January while import fuel prices declined 2.2%, after a 1.1% drop in December.
Petroleum prices fell 2.7% in January and natural gas prices rose 3.3%.
Fuel prices saw a 13.4% decrease on an annual basis since January last year.
US export prices also climbed 0.6% in January following a 0.6% rise in December.
Export prices surged 3.1% over the past year compared to January 2025.
Nonagricultural export price increases balanced steady agricultural prices during the month.
