Ukraine, Norway sign defense cooperation, strategic partnership agreements

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store signed defense cooperation and strategic partnership agreements on Sunday.

Zelenskyy said the agreements strengthen the foundation of the two countries’ long-term partnership in defense, energy and resilience.

He thanked Norway for maintaining a high level of support and pledging about $9 billion in aid for Ukraine in 2027.

“Together with Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Store, we signed an Agreement on defence and security cooperation under the Drone Deal format and a Declaration on a Strategic Partnership – the Ellisiv Accord, named after the daughter of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, who became Queen of Norway,” Zelenskyy wrote on US social media platform X.

Store earlier announced that Norway will provide Ukraine with 85 billion kroner ($9.2 billion) in new aid in 2027, including 70 billion kroner ($7.5 billion) for military support and 15 billion kroner ($1.6 billion) for civilian assistance.

The 2027 commitment will mark the third consecutive year Norway has provided 85 billion kroner in annual support to Ukraine.

Store arrived in Kyiv on Sunday to attend a Nordic-Baltic Eight summit hosted by Zelenskyy.

The summit was also attended by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
