The second European Union-Gulf Cooperation Council (EU-GCC) Summit, originally scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Oct. 24, has been postponed, with a new date to be announced in due course.
In a statement published Thursday, the EU said its partnership with the GCC was of great strategic importance to both regions, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening ties and maintaining the momentum established since the first summit in October 2024.
No explanation was provided for the postponement.
The postponement came amid escalating regional tensions, with several Saudi airports coming under attack since Oct. 5, leaving 20 people dead and hundreds injured, in addition to causing material damage and disruptions to air traffic.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthis since 2015. The group has controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since 2014.
