BERLIN
German politician of Turkish origin, Cem Ozdemir and German Simone Peter were elected co-chairs of the Greens party once again Saturday in the annual congress in Halle, located in the eastern Saxony-Anhalt state.
Ozdemir received 76.9 percent of the votes of more than 700 delegates while Peter claimed 68 percent to co-head the party for the next two years.
Ozdemir said that the party was ready to return to power in 2017, that the Greens would be able to manage the country better than the current coalition government.
He also praised German Chancellor Angela Merkel's policies concerning the refugees.
Cem Ozdemir has been designated co-chair of the party for the fourth time since 2008. Peter was first elected as party co-chair in 2013.
