Knife attack at Slovak school leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

A knife attack by an eighth-grade student at a school in Slovakia left one person dead and two others injured Tuesday, broadcaster TA3 reported.

The student attacked a fellow student and two teachers with a knife at an elementary school in the northern district of Cadca.

One of the teachers, a 61-year-old woman, died from her injuries. The other teacher, a 44-year-old woman, suffered a stab wound to the chest and was airlifted to a hospital.

A student was also injured and remained in critical condition at the hospital.

Two ground ambulances and rescue helicopters were dispatched to the scene.

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini later issued a message on social media, describing the attack as a serious warning for society and urging people to be mindful of the atmosphere they create in public spaces.
