Lithuania is investing more than €33 million ($38 million) to expand its military refueling network to support the armed forces and NATO-allied troops, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reported Tuesday, citing the Defense Ministry.
The expansion includes refueling stations, fuel storage facilities and vehicle wash stations at military units in strategically important locations, according to the ministry.
Some facilities have already been completed this year, while most of the new infrastructure is expected to be finished in 2027.
“We are consistently expanding the fuel infrastructure needed to supply both the Lithuanian Armed Forces and NATO allied troops,” said Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas.
The network is intended to ensure reliable fuel reserves and uninterrupted supplies for combat, logistical and administrative vehicles, strengthening military readiness, operational mobility and deterrence, said the ministry.
It added that it was cooperating with other state institutions to make better use of existing fuel storage facilities and related infrastructure.
