A 29-year-old man has been charged after climbing onto London's iconic clock tower of Big Ben in a pro-Palestine protest, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.
Daniel Day, from Palmerston Road in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, faces charges of "intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance and trespassing on a protected site."
The incident occurred on Saturday morning, when Day scaled the Elizabeth Tower – the home of Big Ben – barefoot.
After spending hours on the landmark, he descended just after midnight.
Day has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The Elizabeth Tower, home to one of the most famous clock faces in the world, is a protected site and is closely monitored for security.
