Guinean health authorities have registered 10 new Ebola infection cases, dashing hopes for a near end of the deadly virus outbreak in the Western African nation.
"The new cases came after four weeks of no infections," Sakoba Keita, a senior Health Ministry official, told Anadolu Agency on Monday.
"They mark a reversal of the situation after the country had dreamed of a near end of the Ebola outbreak," he added.
Ebola – a contagious disease for which there is no known treatment or cure – has killed more than 11,080 people, mostly in West Africa, according to a World health Organization (WHO) status report dated May 10.
In Guinea alone, the virus has claimed at least 2,392 lives.
The WHO has earlier this month declared neighboring Liberia Ebola-free after 42 days passed without reporting any new infection cases.
