Explosion rocks public market in southwestern Yemen

An explosion rocked a crowded public market Wednesday in Yemen’s southwestern Taiz province, local sources reported.

The public market in the DhuBab area of Taiz, near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, was targeted by a ballistic missile, the sources said.

Panic broke out in the area following the attack, they added, but no information was immediately available on any deaths or injuries.

Footage shared on social media also showed a powerful explosion at the crowded public market.

The footage showed a large number of people around the market at the time of the explosion, followed by thick smoke and dust covering the area.

Media outlets close to the Yemeni government reported that the Houthis targeted the market with a missile.

Social media accounts close to the Houthis, meanwhile, also posted footage of the attack and claimed that it was an airstrike.
