The leaders of France, Germany, and Britain on Friday urged the UN Security Council to give its full support to the new Gaza ceasefire plan, stressing the importance of its swift and complete implementation.
In a joint statement, the three leaders welcomed the "agreement on a ceasefire in the Middle East, the planned release of hostages, and the resumption of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza."
They paid tribute to US President Donald Trump's "leadership" on the issue, as well as to the diplomatic efforts of mediators Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar, and the "vital support from the wider region" to secure the deal.
"It is now of utmost importance that all parties implement their obligations in full and without delay. We stand ready to support further talks on the next stages of the plan and to contribute to it," the statement said.
"As part of this effort, we agree that the UN Security Council should give its full backing to the plan and support its implementation," it added.
The leaders also pledged to provide "substantive humanitarian aid packages through UN agencies" to be delivered once the ceasefire takes effect.
On Sept. 29, Trump unveiled a 20-point plan for Gaza that includes the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, a permanent ceasefire, and a gradual withdrawal of the Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip.
Phase two of the plan calls for the establishment of a new governing mechanism in Gaza without Hamas’ participation, the formation of a security force made up of Palestinians and troops from Arab and Islamic countries, and the disarmament of Hamas. It also stipulates Arab and Islamic funding for the new administration and reconstruction of the strip, with limited participation from the Palestinian Authority.
Arab and Muslim countries have, by and large, welcomed the plan, but some officials have also said that many details in it need discussion and negotiations to be fully implemented.
Iran, Ukraine
Turning to Iran, the statement underlined the E3 (France, Germany, and Britain) backing of the snapback mechanism, under which UN sanctions on Tehran could be reinstated, calling Iran's nuclear program "a serious threat to global peace and security."
The countries said they are determined to "reinitiate negotiations with Iran and the United States towards a comprehensive, durable, and verifiable agreement that ensures Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon," urging all UN member states to comply with the restrictions.
On Ukraine, the leaders strongly condemned Russia's "escalatory attacks" and its "systematic targeting of critical national infrastructure" vital for civilians during winter.
They vowed to step up pressure on Moscow and signaled readiness to use immobilized Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine's armed forces "in close cooperation with the United States."
