A lawmaker from Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc said Thursday that the newly reached ceasefire agreement with Israel must include a complete halt to assassinations and all hostile acts across Lebanese territory.
In an interview with Anadolu, Ibrahim al-Moussawi said Hezbollah would approach the 10-day truce cautiously and monitor developments closely.
He said the agreement was reached “under Iranian pressure, Pakistani efforts and Saudi cooperation.”
The 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel entered into force at midnight local time Friday in Beirut and Tel Aviv.
US President Donald Trump announced the truce Thursday after what he described as “excellent conversations” with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The announcement follows US-mediated talks between Lebanese and Israeli delegations that took place Tuesday at the State Department in Washington, DC. The Hezbollah group was not represented in the meeting.
Since March 2, Israel has launched an offensive on Lebanon that has killed 2,196 people and injured 7,185 others, according to official figures. The assault has also displaced more than 1 million people.
