Israeli forces launched artillery shells and machine-gun fire at areas in the western countryside of Syria’s Daraa province early Monday, with no injuries reported, SANA news agency reported.
Israeli forces fired several artillery shells toward the Abidin and Al-Raqqad valleys while also targeting the outskirts of Jamla village in the Yarmouk Basin area of southern Daraa.
Israeli forces also opened fire from one of their positions along the 1974 disengagement line toward the outskirts of Abidin town.
The attacks came a day after the Israeli army twice shelled the countryside of southern Quneitra province within hours, targeting an area southeast of Al-Rafid town and the woodland of Bir Ajam village with artillery fire, according to SANA.
Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024, Israel expanded its occupation of Syrian territory, seized the buffer zone and declared the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement between the two sides collapsed.
Under the agreement, a buffer zone under Syrian sovereignty was established to separate Syrian and Israeli forces, with the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) tasked with monitoring its implementation.
Despite the Syrian government posing no threat to Tel Aviv, the Israeli army has repeatedly raided Syrian territories and carried out airstrikes that killed civilians and destroyed military sites, vehicles, weapons and ammunition belonging to the Syrian army.
