MONASTIR, Tunisia
Tunisian President Baji Caid Essebsi announced Saturday he will not run for re-election in the presidential elections slated for November 17.
"I will not seek candidacy although the constitution guarantees me that right," he told an electoral conference held by his Nidaa Tounes in the coastal city of Monastir.
During his speech, Essebsi suggested restoring the party membership of Youssef Chahed, who is currently heading the Tunisian government.
Nidaa Tounes party was founded by Essebsi in 2012.
