The United Arab Emirates called Wednesday for holding Iran “fully liable” for damages and reparations for attacks on its territory.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that 2,819 ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones were fired by Iran toward the UAE territory over the past 40 days.
The UAE is "closely following" the two-week US-Iran ceasefire and is seeking "further clarification on the agreement’s provisions to ensure Iran’s full commitment to an immediate cessation of all hostilities in the region and the complete and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the Iranian attacks caused casualties and property damage, requiring a "firm position.”
It emphasized the need for “a comprehensive and sustained approach that addresses Iran’s full range of threats, including its nuclear capabilities, ballistic missiles, drones, military capabilities, and affiliated proxies and terrorist groups, while ending threats to freedom of navigation, as well as economic warfare and piracy in the Strait of Hormuz."
The ministry expressed hope “for achieving sustainable peace for all countries in the region."
Iran and the US announced a two-week truce on Tuesday aimed at paving the way for a final agreement to end war launched by Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran on Feb. 28, which has left thousands dead and wounded.
The announcement came less than two hours before the expiration of a deadline US President Donald Trump had repeatedly extended for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and accept an agreement or face “the destruction of an entire civilization.”
