BAGHDAD
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki on Monday called for a political solution regarding the Syrian crisis that escalated due to Syrian President Bashar Al Assad's use of chemical weapons.
Maliki called for a political solution for the Syrian crisis, which has become increasingly complex due to foreign intervention, in a meeting held with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in Iraqi capital Baghdad, according to the Iraqi Prime Ministry.
Sectarianism, tribalism and terror were as dangerous as chemical weapons, Maliki said.
Maliki added that a political solution for the Syrian crisis would be in the interest of all parties, both domestic and regional.
In response, Iranian FM Zarif said Tehran wished to develop friendly relations and establish cooperation between Iraq and Iran.
Zarif is exptected to meet with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari, Leader of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim and Leader of Iraqi National Alliance Ibrahim al-Jaafari during his two-day visit in Iraq.
