CAIRO
Syrian regime described Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi's decision to break off relations with Syira as an 'irresponsible move'.
An official from the Syrian regime, who declined to be identified, claimed in a statement in Syria's official SANA news agency, Morsi had joined the "conspiracy and incitement led by the United States and Israel against Syria by announcing the cutting of ties yesterday".
The official said the decision did not represent the will of the Egyptian people accusing Morsi of announcing the cutting of ties to deflect attention from domestic crises in Egypt. The official also condemned Morsi's call for a no fly-zone over Syria.
Meanwhile officials from the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces said they took kindly to the decision and called on Egypt to hand over the Syrian Embassy to them.
Secretary General of the Muslim Brotherhood Farouk Tayfuk, also a member of the Syrian National Coalition, said handing over of the Syrian Embassy in Egypt to the Syrian opposition as Qatar had done earlier, meant seeing the Syrian National Coalition as the only legitimate representative of Syrian people.
Morsi addressing a rally called by Sunni-Muslim clerics in Cairo had said Egypt had decided to break off ties with the Syrian regime entirely, also warning Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s allies in the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah to pull back from fighting in Syria.
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood said the decision they made to cut ties with the Assad regime did not come after the US decided to arm the Syrian opposition.
