GENEVA
Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter will be the president of Switzerland next year.
Burkhalter, the leader of the centre-right Liberal party, was elected Swiss president for 2014 by the federal assembly in Bern.
He received 183 of 202 votes which is the one of the highest number that a nominee has received in the past decade.
Burkhalter will take over from the current Swiss President Ueli Maurer on January 1 who had only received 148 votes last year.
