BELGRADE, Serbia
Fifty-four illegal migrants were found on Sunday hiding in a van with a Serbian license plate in northeastern Kucevo town, with four other arrested on suspicion of smuggling them, officials said.
According to the Serbian Ministry of Interior, people were found during the traffic control. Arrested were I.S. born in 1980, I.M. born in 1983, B.T. born in 1980 and S.S. born in 1987.
A criminal charge was filed against them and they are handed over to the prosecutor's office for further action, the ministry said in press release.
Among the migrants, six were children. Misdemeanor charges were filed against all of them for illegal border crossing.
The ministry did not disclose information about their identity but during the last couple of months several dozens of people from Afghanistan and Syria were detained on the same charges.
