ADDIS ABABA
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry held talks Thursday with his Ethiopian counterpart Tedros Adhanom.
The top U.S. diplomat is expected to meet with officials of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on South Sudan's peace process and a high-level delegation on Somalia.
South Sudan was shaken by violence since mid-December after President Salva Kiir accused his sacked vice president Riek Machar of staging a failed coup against his government.
Kerry will also hold talks with A.U. officials on ways of ending bloodshed in the violence-ridden Central African Republic, an A.U. official told Anadolu Agency.
Kerry's visit to Addis Ababa is part of a regional tour that will also take him to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Angola.
Washington's top diplomat had visited Addis Ababa last May to attend celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the African Union.
Somalia President to meet Kerry in Ethiopia
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to arrive soon in Addis Ababa for talks with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, an Ethiopian official said Thursday.
"The president will arrive in Ethiopia for sure, but I cannot tell when," a Foreign Ministry official told Anadolu Agency.
According to the official, the Somali leader is expected to arrive either Thursday or Friday.
Kerry arrived in Addis Ababa late Wednesday for a two-day visit to Ethiopia as part of a regional tour that will also take him to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola.
