An aide of ousted President Mohamed Morsi arrived home late on Sunday, days after he was released from prison on health grounds.
Khaled al-Qazzaz, a secretary of the ousted President for foreign affairs, reached his home upon orders from Egypt's Prosecutor-General Hesham Barakat, a relative of his told The Anadolu Agency.
Al-Qazzaz was arrested in July of 2013, following Morsi's ouster by the army.
Morsi was removed from power after only one year in office following mass protests against his government.
Al-Qazzaz's family said in a statement on Sunday that the prosecutor-general had ordered his release on December 29, 2014.
Al-Qazzaz was hospitalized at the time, the family added.
A lawyer familiar with Morsi's aide's case said he was released after the submission of a legal request for release on health grounds.
A large number of Morsi's aides, government ministers and supporters are now in jail, facing charges of inciting violence and attacking state institutions.
A judicial source, meanwhile, confirmed al-Qazzaz's release, saying the prosecution had released him, given his health conditions during his detention.
The source told AA that although an order was issued for al-Qazzaz's release a few days ago, this order was not implemented until Sunday.
"Al-Qazzaz is accused of joining an unlawful group that calls for violence and attacking state institutions," the source said.
Al-Qazzaz is the first Morsi aide to be released from prison.
