CAIRO
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad offered Egypt strategic partnership.
Speaking to the press in Cairo on the sidelines of the 12th Summit meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), President Ahmadi-Nejad stressed that "we all need to understand that Egypt and Iran have no other chance than becoming a strategic partner which would help the peoples of the region."
"Foreign powers block the close relations between the two biggest countries of the Middle East, Egypt and Iran. Nevertheless, Egypt and Iran have common vision on many international incidents," Ahmadi-Nejad stressed.
On allegations that Iran interfered in domestic politics of the Gulf countries, Ahmadi-Nejad indicated that they did not want problems with the Gulf countries.
"The only problem has to do with US presence in the Gulf countries," Ahmadi-Nejad also said.
Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad became the first Iranian President to visit Egypt since the Iranian Islamic revolution of 1979.
