ISLAMABAD
A senior Pakistani diplomat has said the Pakistani government was making preparations to release Afghan Taliban members in the country's prisons.
Speaking at press meeting in Abu Dhabi on Friday, Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani said the plan was to release all of the Taliban prisoners.
"Our goal is to release all prisoners," he said when asked if Taliban's top military commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who was captured in a joint operation by Pakistani and US intelligence in February 2010 in Karachi, Pakistan, was among those to be freed.
Last November, Pakistan agreed to release the Taliban members in a bid to contribute to a reconciliation between the Afghan government and the group, releasing more than 20 Taliban members the same month and in December of 2012.
