DONETSK, Ukraine
Pro-Russian militants have seized the regional prosecutor's office in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk.
After attending May Day protests at Lenin Square, the militants marched over to the prosecutor's office upon which the police secured the building.
During the clash that lasted about two hours the militants began hurling rocks at the police who responded by firing tear gas and stun grenades. As the situation escalated the police went inside the building only to find the militants smashing the windows then hurling Molotov cocktails inside. Shortly after the militants seized the building and various bits of police equipment and then burned the Ukrainian flag at the front.
A large number of government buildings have been occupied by pro-Russian militants across eastern Ukraine. The administration in Kiev claims that these groups are supported by Russia. However, Russia denies this.
