JUBA
In a bid to put an end to the violent clashes in the world's youngest country, South Sudan's President Salva Kiir Mayardit met Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) founder John Garang's wife on Sunday.
Mayardit met with John Garang's wife, Rebecca Garang Nyandeng, who is considered among the sides of the conflict, for the first time since last week when clashes erupted after a failed coup attempt.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Nyandeng said she and Mayardit exchanged ideas on the situation in the country, vowing to keep the dialogue channels open.
Refusing to give detailed information on what was talked of in the meeting, Nyandeng said it was up to Mayardit to find a solution to the conflict and to prevent it from spreading to other regions of the country.
South Sudanese capital Juba has been the centre of an armed conflict which erupted after a failed coup attempt by the followers of former vice president Riek Machar. The clashes spred to other provinces as President Mayardit announced his readiness to have dialogue with the rebels.
