WASHINGTON
The State Department’s refugee official will travel to Turkey and Jordan April 3-8, the department announced Thursday.
Anne Richard will meet with Turkish government officials and NGO representatives in Ankara "to discuss the humanitarian situation in Syria, as well as Turkish and U.S. efforts to provide assistance to 1.7 million refugees from Syria and the more than 200,000 refugees and asylum-seekers from other countries living in Turkey."
While in Istanbul, Richard will take part in a roundtable discussion with refugees, and visit with them at U.S.-funded organizations that provide refugee assistance.
Following her time in Turkey, Richard will travel to the Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan where she will meet with refugees, NGOs and Jordanian officials.
The camp is home to more than 17,000 of Jordan’s 627,000 UN-registered refugees.
