A part of the British parliament was briefly evacuated Monday after security officers found a suspicious package, London's Metropolitan Police said.
Staff was allowed to re-enter the Portcullis House, a part of British parliament, only once security had cleared the area, a police spokesman said.
The Portcullis House contains offices of lawmakers. It is located opposite the Houses of Parliament and above the Westminster underground station.
The spokesman said the package was declared non-suspicious after investigations.
Police also said the Westminster underground station had been closed for a brief period.
Since August, the security level in the U.K. has been raised because of threats from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant fighters.
