TUNIS
Speaker of Tunisia's National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Mustafa Ben Jaafar said Friday that the ratification of the country's new constitution "reflects the depth of common factors between Tunisians".
Speaking at the NCA in a ceremony held to celebrate the endorsement of the new charter, Ben Jaafar said that the constitution "is the basis of consensus between the factions of Tunisian society…and its will to coexist."
"The Tunisian revolution is one of a kind," he said. "It sets a model to other Arab countries for peaceful struggle and democratic transition."
Tunisia's uprising which toppled autocrat Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011 triggered the wave of popular uprisings in the Arab world.
The country is holding official celebrations on Friday to mark the endorsement of the new charter, which was ratified by the elected NCA on January 27.
