ANKARA
A high-level U.S. delegation has met Turkish officials to discuss the fight against Daesh in Syria and Iraq, a Turkish Foreign Ministry source said on Wednesday.
The Ankara meeting between officials led by Gen. John Allen, President Barack Obama’s envoy to the anti-Daesh coalition, and Turkish military, intelligence and Foreign Ministry officials discussed further cooperation by Turkey, the source told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity.
Tuesday's meeting also covered the displacement of the Arab and Turkmen population from Syria’s northern border area following the Kurdish military success against Daesh in Tal Abyad last month.
The advance of the People’s Protection Units has fuelled concerns about Kurdish ambitions to create an independent state on Turkey’s southern flank. There has also been speculation that Turkey will send troops across the border to establish a security zone inside Syria.
