A U.S. predator drone killed four people and injured "many" others in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday.
The drone fired two missiles at a compound in the town of Dattakhel, near the border with Afghanistan, a senior Pakistani military official said on condition of anonymity. Those killed have not been identified.
It was the 17th drone attack this year.
More than 3,400 people have been killed in more than 400 drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal belt since 2004. According to international human rights organizations and think tanks; 70 per cent of the drone victims were unarmed civilian.
The U.S. claim the drone strikes precisely strike militants but a recent investigative report issued by the UK-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism says hundreds of civilians were killed by unmanned predator strikes targeting 16 Al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders. The report said that the same militant leaders have been announced as killed in strikes two or three times each.
