WASHINGTON
According to a New York Times news article, an official with the U.S. administration said that the Scud missiles were fired on targets in Syria's north from the Damascus region.
Victoria Nuland, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, said that while she could not confirm the types of the missiles used (by Assad forces), missiles were indeed used by the Syrian forces.
Jay Carney, the spokesperson for the White House, said that he could not confirm the New York Times news article.
"If the New York Times news article is correct, then it is the latest example of a desperate act by the Syrian regime. Such news is an indication of how unethical Assad and his close circle is," Carney underlined.
Launching missiles against its own people within Syrian territory shows how desperate the Syrian regime is, Carney also said.
