US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said US intelligence reached the conclusion that Syrian government used chemical weapons during the clashes which had been continuing for two years in the country.
Hagel told reporters on Thursday, "White House informed two senators by letter that with varying degrees of confidence, it assessed the Syrian regime has used chemical weapons on a small scale in Syria, specifically, the chemical agent sarin."
Hagel said that use of chemical weapons was a violation of convention of warfare.
Earlier, US President Barack Obama said the use of chemical weapons would be a "game-changer" in the US position on intervening in Syrian issue.
Britain has persuasive info on Syrian use of chemical weapons
Moreover, British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) also stated, "We have limited but persuasive information from various sources showing chemical weapon use in Syria."
FCO explained in a statement on Thursday, "We have limited but persuasive information from various sources showing chemical weapon use in Syria, including sarin. This is extremely concerning. Use of chemical weapons is a war crime. We have briefed our allies, partners and the UN on this information and we are working actively to get more and better information."
British Foreign & Commonwealth Office called Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to cooperate with the international community, "Asad must cooperate with the international community and prove that his regime has not committed this horrific crime, allowing unrestricted access for the UN and OPCW to investigate on the ground in Syria."
