Voting began at 07.00 hours on Sunday for the leadership elections in the Greek Cypriot administration.
545,180 registered voters will cast ballots at 1,139 boxes.
Voting will temporarily stop for one hour beginning at 12.00 p.m..
The voting process will end 06.00 p.m. on Sunday.
Election results are expected to be announced within two hours after voting ends.
"There is chance for solution in this heavenly island,"
Strongest candidate leadership elections in the Greek Cypriot administration, Nikos Anastasiadis of the Democratic Rally Party (DISY) said that "there was chance for a solution in this heavenly island."
Voting in a junior high school in Limassol with his family, Anastasiadis was welcomed by a large crowd of people who chanted slogans in support of him.
Speaking to Turkish Cypriot journalists after casting his ballot, Anastasiadis underlined that "there was a chance for solution in this heavenly island."
Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots should be able to make use of equal rights in "Cyprus", Anastasiadis also said.
Greek Cypriots not hopeful about elections
The Greek Cypriots, going through a major economic crisis, continue not to be much interested in the elections.
A great portion of the Greek Cypriots have said that coming out of the economic crisis would be a tough job.
Many Greek Cypriots have underlined that they do not expect much from elections.
